LICENSING, CREDITS & ATTRIBUTIONS

MIXCLOUD CLOUDCASTS

The music royalties on our Mixcloud cloudcasts and stations are paid by Mixcloud which has a comprehensive licensing framework with rightsholders globally, including licenses with record labels, publishers, collecting societies and more. Mixcloud’s ICE ‘Core’ licence covers PRS, STIM and GEMA repertoire for their combined 290,000 members and repertoire for some of the leading independent music publishers.

In the UK, PRS has introduced license fees for music playing on websites. However, Mixcloud have confirmed in writing to us that their website players come within the Mixcloud licensing framework and therefore they still pay all royalities due.

24/7 ONLINE RADIO GROUP STATIONS

The 24/7 Online Radio Group runs 20 internet stations. We play licensed music purchased from a number of recording rightsholders including composers/creators/producers, music libraries and companies whose works are not registered through the Performing Rights Organisations (PRO) nor Collective Management Organisations/Mechanical Copyright Protection Societies. The payment to copyright holders to stream their music tracks on our stations has been determined by individual, negotiated licenses and/or agreements. This approach guarantees that the creator/producer/copyright holder has received a fee that they have agreed to, for us to stream their works. (Although the music may also come under what is often known as  Royalty Free Licenses* this usually relates to being free of PRO payments.)

We have selected and purchased non-PRO music from the following libraries or collections provided by AKM MusicFilmmusicFree Stock Music FSM TeamKayser MedienverlagInAudio and The I Chill Music Factory. The composers/creators who produce their own music include Anthony Kimber McTiffen of AKM Music, Johannes Kayser of Kayser Medienverlag and Didier Poglio of Tera Mangala Meditation MusicFilmmusic and Free Stock Music FSM Team, provide license agreements on behalf of their composers which means we may have a number of additional non-PRO composers/producers whose music we play on our stations. This includes Sascha Ende from Filmmusic and ESCP from the Free Stock Music FSM Team, Our artists compose, produce and record their own music and own the copyright.

Our non-music stations include 24/7 Nature Radio and 24/7 Relaxation Radio. In addition to including recordings from some of the collections mentioned above, the 24/7 Online Radio Group producer (who is non-PRO) has recorded sounds of nature from the natural environment.

Our library of licensed music consists over 9,000 music tracks and access to many more stored in external libraries.  Our target is to have a licensed music library of over 10,000 tracks to play on our stations. We thank the copyright holders, composers/creators who produce their own recordings and companies for licensing their music to us.

Wherever possible, we credit the composer/creators on the radio station’s website. Composer/musicians and their track titles are credited in our digital streams. Composers (creators) and music libraries have there own dedicated webpages on this website so that listeners can learn more about them and their work and how to purchase their music.

We require non-exclusive international licenses or agreements for all music we play on our stations. In a nutshell, our policy is, ‘no licence, no play’.

Please note that our stations are not available in the USA, France, Spain and some other countries.

OUR CHECKS

Although we have been provided with licences and/or written agreements, we still check on ASCAP and BMISESACSACEMGEMA and PPL Repertoire and PPL Member/Label online search tools to ensure that the declared copyright holder and/or music is not registered and is PRO free. In some case where copyright holders have not registered their music but are still registered with a PRO themselves, we do not play their music on our streaming stations. Often in the PRO contract, the PRO has exclusive rights to collecting royalties and their member is unable to provide separate licenses. We are not prepared to infinge copyright.

ROYALTY FREE MUSIC IS A MISNOMER

*Please note that the ‘free’ aspect of Royalty Free Music is a misnomer. Although no further royalties should be payable by the user, generally a fee is paid to the rightsholder(s) upfront ie composer/creator, musician, producer, record label, and/or publisher. The 24/7 Online Radio Group purchases a one-off license for use in perpetuity for a non-PRO collection or library of a producer/creator’s music tracks. (If a composer/producer decides later to become a PRO member, sadly we no longer use their tracks.)

PERFORMANCE COMPLEMENT

As our stations currently play tracks from under ten main non-PRO collections the performance complement cannot be applied, ie 4 tracks by the same artist may be transmitted to the same listener within a 3 hour period. We are not restricted within the terms of our licenses and individual agreements with the copyright holders how often we play the music tracks.

GEO-BLOCKING

Although we have purchased non-exclusive international licenses for all the music we play, due to the broadcast licensing conditions in some countries, we geo-block (or geo-restrict) our internet and phone app streams to them. This includes USA, France and Spain. We apologise for any inconvenience or frustration that this may cause. There are many other established internet stations based in those countries that can provide you with an excellent alternative service.

LISTENER REQUESTS: AN INTERACTIVE SERVICE

Our online service is interactive. Listeners can up or downgrade tracks or artists and request music tracks or recordings. Depending upon demand, listeners can choose the next track to be played! (We limit how many requests can be made by any one listener during a listening period so every listener has an opportunity to choose the next track.)

RE-BROADCASTING OR USING MUSIC TRACKS FROM OUR INTERNET STREAMS

In 2023, it came to our attention that some recordings of tracks from our internet radio streams have been recorded and used on YouTube. In addition, our internet streams have been relayed/re-broadcast live. Although we have licenses and/or written agreements from the copyright holders to use all the tracks we play, these rights are not transferrable. Others wishing to use the tracks must obtain their own licenses directly from the copyright holders. Also as our music creators/music libraries are non-PRO, a license from your national PRO probably will not cover the use of their music. If you want to use the tracks we play, it is important to obtain a license from the rightholders listed at the top of this webpage.

PUBLIC PERFORMANCE

Currently, we do not give permission for our stations to be played in public locations such as shops or restaurants. Our license with the copyright holders is with us, and not third parties such as other business owners ie shops etc. Do note, that as we play non-PRO music, then a PRO license may still not cover the music we play. If you like the tracks we play on our stations, then please contact the copyright owners such as those listed near the top of this webpage.

How do I report an infringement of copyright on 24/7 Online Group stations or websites?
